This has some really cool ideas in it. The art quality is decent enough to get some idea across, scenes like the rat nightmare made me chuckle. But I'm not sure what the tone it's going for as the tags say creepy and suspense, but really if feels surreal humor with the art style and writing.

Orsolonn responds:

Thank you for the feedback :)

The audio of the sfx is fighting with the game music and is only in the left channel. This could be cool for having the soundscape move with Samus, but it kind adds to the muffled nature of the SFX because they're only in one channel. (Just saw your description, I feel you there)

A suggestion for the floor of the environment is to have a reason why samus jumps over that area like a bigger hole that isn't traversable or maybe some acid or spikey plants to match the background. It looks very cool to see her morph ball to wall cling, to jumping over into a run, but she just could have hopped over that area with no trouble and kept running so the pacing feels sluggish due to extra movements (But it does look cool so there's that).

This is still a storyboard so it's cool to have fun with things in a stage where reworking them won't take too much. Interested in seeing what else is is being done with this idea! Don't lose to the audio!
Edit: No worries! Keep up the good work!

Buster98 responds:

Yo! I really appreciate the feedback dude. I didn't even realise half that shit, so that's super helpful.
I'm currently working on another animated short rn, but I definitely wanna return to this after.

Thanks again! 🔥

Nice work.

Orbitten responds:

Thank ye.

This feels like a "multiplayer" on steroids. The quality of the writing is decent. Very simple plot that's super easy to follow, but sometimes way too simple. Parts like the mean preppy girls who hate specifically the thing the bullied friend like troupe and the "Woah you're really cool!" "Huh? uhh I guess I am haha" were to be expected. But it had fun moments like Top and Rab trying to buy the game with tokens were fun as well as top actually being able to do the shell thing was also pretty fun. There's just a weird feeling that Gessica is putting herself out there to be used again just because they were the first people to be nice to her, but considering how this is for a student film it makes sense to keep this stuff short and simple. With more time, more characterization could be worked in.

Presentation is very consistent and budgeted in an appealing in a way that would work well as an online web series for kids.

The sound levels/ microphone quality can be kind of funky, I can't put my finger on it, but sometimes it feels like the voices are competing with the bgm and certain voice takes don't match in quality to others. It wasn't extremely noticeable for the most part, but was there.

All in all this didn't feel like someone making a student film, but rather an animation pilot or an already running show so Good job!

RylanLego responds:

Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked the video, and I appreciate the criticism. I did indeed have to keep things simple for the most part as a student film, and I apologize about any audio quality issues 😅 (Voices were recorded in two different states) but I'm so glad you see the potential in this! I'd love to make even more fun stories and explore the characterization in the future :)

Thank goodness the Finale!

And since it looks like you've gotten little to no feed back on almost EVERYTHING you've made up to this point I'll give some:

Your work seems to be style over substance. The only reason I'm here commenting on this video right now is because of the art portal submission: BLOOD SPIRAL Finale 1-2
which showed a great 3d shader character animation. HOWEVER I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT IS GOING ON

"Bro what's going with his hair?" says the shapeless silhouette to the other shapeless silhouette. I guess we'll assume that Tune is diffrent from everyone else, but the only evidence we have is what we're being TOLD not SHOWN

The backwards text to speech voices are slightly grating but stylistically they work, the anime dialogue is rudimentary and more of that "Tell don't show" school of writing. Gorgon Brains seem cool, but uhhh what are they for? You know what, for that matter what is a Gorgon? Where are we? Chroman particles? What was that lightning cummin outta yah!? Bro Neptune is packing an extra long schlong and for what? Casey looks cool, but it still doesn't explain who that furry fox character from earlier is because nothing is explained. Why would one assume that Millennium Labs won't save them? "Don't trust Mill Labs" Water rations are running short? Who gives those rations? Millennium Labs? Do they control the water supply? What did Tune do to the well? Some electric shows up and then I assume Gorgon's arrive to defend the water supply? AIEEEE I'M YIIKING OUT BRO

The style overhaul will probably bring more attention to your work so good work on that. But the writing is confusing, the sexual overtones will deter causal viewers, and the choppy animation while stylistic and slightly entertaining doesn't read entirely well at parts. (The part where Neptune pushes down the two shapeless silhouettes to save them from the Gorgons we don't see what Neptune is saving them from so it reads as Tune just piledriving them into the ground)

Hopefully the future episodes of this "Finale" Fantasy you're making will explain more of what's happening here and judging by the teaser image of 1-2 we'll see more of what CASEY'S PACKING BOING YOING YOING and the animation you're doing is a big improvement, but so far as what this is you need to write more to an audience who can't see into your head. You clearly got a lot of what's happening here in there, but making it understandable will be the first step towards helping people want to see more.

ZodiaWave responds:

THANK YOU! Finally, some issues I can actually pinpoint instead of the usual guess work. All seriousness yeah, def looking into all this.

Only thing I'll say is that I'm well aware that the sexual nature's gonna make this niche as hell. Besides, several episodes are set to be A-Rated so it's kinda unavoidable. If it means avoiding a teen-dominated fandom like the plague, that's a price I'm willing to pay.

But yeah, again for real, thanks for the feedback man, this actually gave me a LOT to think about going forward.

This is an interesting watch! The inner mouth camera shot of the character's leg getting licked was questionable ;) however the whole concept of the space dinosaur existing out in a water bubble in space was really cool! The follow up action scene was also really cool! But none of the people on the bridge are paying attention to this threat so I can only assume they're not aware of it?

These scenes don't make any sense without proper context so I can only wait to see if there is some sort of explanation before this scene or after it.

I enjoy the animation especially with Solveig burning through the vault door. General audiences will just say that the animation looks good and like it for being so complex and smooth, but there are a few animation errors here and there as well as a lightning fast timing you're going for which does work for a fast rescue scene, but may hurt the flow if you suddenly slow down at any point. Once again this requires the rest of the context but my advice is too keep up that pace if you're going to finish the whole thing.

The tone feels inconsistent as well? Showing the Dinosaur get half of it's face blown off then having people get sucked into space to showing aguy get buried in the ground Looney Tunes style with his eyes rolling around in his head and then the other guy gets vaporized to bone and muscle in a grim fashion? I don't know it was kind of jarring from point to point, but it might be what you're going for so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There was also a continuity error that bugged me when I watched this:
Why didn't the other area depressurize at 0:20? If there was a direct path to space that section would suck out too.

All in all this project has a lot of work behind it and while it is sort of worrying that this took 10 years to make, it seems that it all boils down to your motivation to work on something to show people and not having anyone to show it to. This isn't a waste of time if you finish it!

I would like to see it in it's entirety so I can understand what's going on in with the story and what the conclusion is. It's up to you what you do from here but I would suggest finishing it in the next year or so and not spend anymore time on it if you can't get it done by the fall next year 2023 but that's just some so in so's opinion so take it with however much salt your body can handle.

Everdra responds:

Thank you very much for your very detailed response. I'll make sure that the guy's reactions will make sense in context. I already have another shot that establishes that these guys are kinda bad at their job and also bored out of their mind and don't pay much attention. The only exception being the female lieutenant who actually looking out of the window.

About that guy who get's stuck in the ground: Yeah that's kinda silly. Maybe I'll do something about that. Let's see.

You are right about that continuity error. I also noticed that. I will probably add some sort of bulkhead closing in one of the shots. As for the 10 year thing: This is by far not all of the footage that I have completed. There is around 2 minutes of done shots for this project. I am slow but not THAT slow ;)

It's nice to finally get some feedback for this. I'm about to finish another pretty lenghty and complex shot. I might post more here in the future, but I don't want to give everything away before it's all done.

Student Film?
Edit: Cool.

TeflonWeasel responds:

Yeah, I just graduated from the animation program at SVA. I'm gonna be taking some time to focus on making animations and storyboards that I want to do for a bit so I'm thinking of uploading them here since I've always been a viewer on this site.

Post this to the art portal as a gif instead of the movie portal. Doesn't have any music and is only 2.7 seconds long.

Peekaywalsh responds:

okay! cheers, I'm still new to this whole thing

GET IN THE COLLAB SHINJI!

Thriftman responds:

Swag

I wasn't gonna say shit, but man the comments got me in a tissy over this video. While the *Hits blunt* "Bro war is like bad" message isn't the best here. I finally got in the comfy mood for this shit to work for me and enjoy it with these cool backgrounds which are a marked improvement from the other "Dogs without Collars" Episodes which only used general block shapes for their backgrounds. The writing isn't the strongest here, but it's something! The mind blown analogy is there, simple record flip metaphor and I really like the Viet Cong animals not saying anything and the dog just glaring at him made me smile.

I will say this. It's shorter, most dog's without collars are around 3 minutes or more so this is probably what feels so weak in the writing department for only essentially 3 soft jokes and a really fucking good drawing of a turn table (What the fuck?). You guys did change the line art for this one too maybe that's it... Idk

But come on folks this is at least a 3.5, soft 4. God it seems like whenever people instantly like something they slap a fucking 5 on the ground like a thumbs up and walk away and only when they feel like reviewing they bring out the 2.5s and soft 3s.

Look the animation is simple and repeats a lot for economics sake, the only thing I had to really complain about seriously animation wise was the cigarette clipping through the carton and needing more frames, but it's ok! It's serviceable!

Sorry for the rant, but being in the "Eh Dogs without leashes is ok camp" and seeing this being the one to finally bring me over. It throws me for a loop seeing this one be the one that bears the brunt of the criticism.

I'm gonna assume it's a insider discord joke and people are being silly or something.
Edit: @DylanMann the Kenny Rodgers joke will keep with me "Through the years". You guys are goofs.

DylanMann responds:

If the jokes in this cartoon weren't for you, maybe try these on for size!

What did the customer say to the barber?
“I mustache you a question, but I’ll shave it for later!”

What did Kenny Rogers do after his favorite cowboy boots snapped into two pieces? In tribute to his cowboy boots, he wrote the song 'You picked a fine time to leave me, loose heel'.

What did Richard Nixon say when he bumped into Gerald Ford?
Pardon me!
